Choosing photographs

Great portraits begin with great reference photographs.

You do not need a professional photograph, but the image should clearly show the details and personality you would like captured.

Best results

Photographs that work well

  • Photographed in natural daylight
  • Eyes and facial features are sharp
  • Original high-resolution photograph
  • Natural colours without heavy filters
  • Your pet’s markings are clearly visible

Where possible

Photographs to avoid

  • Blurry or heavily compressed images
  • Screenshots from social media
  • Dark photographs with hidden details
  • Strong filters or altered colours
  • Images where part of the face is obscured

Do not worry when your favourite photograph is old or imperfect. Send the images you have and we can confirm whether enough detail is available before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know.

Your portrait details will always be confirmed personally before any payment is requested.

How long does a portrait take?

Completion time depends on the portrait size, number of pets, complexity, and current commission schedule. Your expected completion date will be confirmed before a deposit is requested.

Can you combine pets from different photographs?

Yes. Multiple pets can usually be combined into one composition, provided the reference photographs are clear and taken from compatible angles.

Can you create a memorial portrait?

Absolutely. Memorial portraits are approached with particular care. Older or lower-quality photographs may still be usable, and we can discuss the available options before confirming the commission.

Do you provide framing?

Portraits are currently supplied unframed unless otherwise agreed. This keeps delivery safer and allows you to select a frame that suits your home.

Do you ship outside New Zealand?

International shipping may be available depending on the destination. Shipping costs and expected delivery times will be confirmed before the commission begins.

When is payment required?

A deposit is required after the photograph, composition, price, and completion timeframe have been approved. The remaining balance is due before the finished artwork is dispatched.
